Administrator recruiter hired

Staff writer

After hearing two presentations, county commissioners voted Monday to hire the League of Kansas Municipalities to search for a county administrator.

The League bid $14,896 to $15,469 with no additional fees within a year.

Pracademic Partners of upstate New York bid $19,500 plus advertising and travel expenses. Additional cost could be incurred if not enough candidates applied.

Commissioners said either company would do a good job, but proximity was a factor that led to the decision to hire the League.

“We are a rural county,” commissioner Kent Becker said. “We have to have the right fit.”

John Deardoff, government adviser for the League, told commissioners the county’s first administrator might come from within the county’s ranks. He said it would take 10 to 12 weeks to find candidates.

“I think the candidates you’re going to look at are going to be from smaller cities,” Deardoff said.

Commission chairman David Mueller said he liked that Deardoff said the most important thing for an administrator was to build relationships.

In other business Monday, commissioners formally approved a resolution permitting Sunday beer and liquor sales in unincorporated areas from 9 a.m. instead of noon to 8 p.m.
