The following accidents were reported to Marion County law enforcement agencies:

Remington Road near 160th Road

Tyler Richmond, 22, 331 S. First, Marion, was northbound on Remington Road near 160th in a 2000 Ford F-250 pickup at 12:16 a.m. Sept. 1, when a deer came from a west ditch. The driver swerved to avoid hitting the deer, and entered and struck the west ditch. Marion County Sheriff Deputy Matt Vogt reported the driver was not injured and there was more than $1,000 in damages to the vehicle.

U.S.-50 near milemarker 296

Joshua H. Sider, 29, Manhattan, was eastbound on U.S.-50 near milemarker 296 in a 2002 Chrysler PT Cruiser at 10:30 p.m. Sept. 1, when a deer came from a south ditch and was struck. Sarah C. Sider, 26, of the same address, was a passenger. The occupants of the car were not injured and there was more than $1,000 in damages, reported Deputy Vogt.

190th Road near Nighthawk Road

Dennis R. Schmidt, 28, Newton, was westbound on 190th Road near Nighthawk in a 2000 Dodge R-15 pickup at 9:24 a.m. Sept. 7, when a deer came out of weeds from a south ditch and was struck. Marion County Sheriff Deputy Duane McCarty reported the driver was not injured and there was more than $1,000 in damages.

K-15 near 80th Road

Thomas O. Wilson, 80, Abilene, was northbound on K-15 near 80th Road in a 2000 Buick passenger car at 2:40 p.m. Sept. 8, when a deer came from a west ditch and was struck. The car was registered to Holm Automotive Center of Abilene. The driver was not injured and there was more than $1,000 in damages, reported Marion County Sheriff Deputy Larry Starkey.

Indigo Road near 340th Road

Loyal D. Wedel, 45, 3484 Falcon, Tampa, was southbound on Indigo Road near 340th in a 1994 Ford F-350 pickup at 11:07 a.m. Sept. 10, when three black cows came from a west ditch and onto the roadway. The vehicle struck one of the cows. Duane Jantz, 69, Wichita, was a passenger in the truck. Marion County Undersheriff Randal Brazil reported there were no injuries to the occupants in the truck and less than $1,000 in damages.

360th Road near Sunflower Road

Jon Gehrke, 18, 201 E. Broadway, Lost Springs, was westbound on 360th Road near Sunflower, crossing railroad tracks in a 1991 Chevrolet Caprice passenger car at 1:37 p.m. Sept. 11, when the rear brakes of the vehicle locked up, sending the vehicle into the north ditch, striking a fence. Nicole Gehrke, 23, 906 E. D, Hillsboro, was a passenger and the vehicle was registered to Blaine Gehrke, Box 43, Lost Springs. There were no injuries and more than $1,000 in damages, reported Undersheriff Brazil.

U.S.-56/77 near 230th Road

Domenique N. Bernett, 17, Burlington, N.J., was southbound on U.S.-56/77 near 230th in a 2008 Chevrolet Cobalt at 5:15 p.m. Sept. 11, when she reached to pick up an item causing the car to drive on the shoulder. The driver steered it back onto the road and skidded sideways into a west ditch. The car was registered to Michelle R. Bernett of the same address. Deputy McCarty reported there were no injuries and more than $1,000 in damages.

U.S.-56/77/K-150

Lance McWhirter, 25, Slater, Mo., was eastbound on U.S.-56 in a 2004 Kenworth semi at 9:13 a.m. Sept. 12, at the intersection of U.S.-56/77/K-150, and passed a vehicle on the right that had stopped at the stop sign. The driver failed to yield to a southbound 2004 GMC pickup driven by Troy Eugene Farmer, 41, Assaria, which collided with the semi. Farmer was injured and transported by Marion EMS to St. Luke Hospital, Marion. McWhirter was not injured. Kansas Highway Patrol investigated the accident.

190th Road near Mustang Road

Deann N. Strotkamp, 28, 202 Garfield, Marion, was driving a 1993 Ford Mustang west on 190th Road near Mustang at 10:24 a.m. Sept. 12, when the car hydroplaned due to standing water. The car came to rest in the north ditch. A second vehicle, a 2005 Mercury Mountaineer, driven by Mary A. Jolley, 83, 2 Lois Lane, Marion, hydroplaned in the same area, striking the rear driver’s side of the Mustang. There were no injuries and more than $1,000 in damages, reported Marion County Sheriff Deputy Travis Wilson.

U.S.-56 and Nighthawk Road

Janice M. Stika, 62, Herington, was westbound on U.S.-56 at Nighthawk Road in a 2002 Ford Taurus at 6:45 a.m. Sept. 15, when a deer came from a south ditch and was struck. Undersheriff Brazil reported the driver was not injured and damages were more than $1,000.
