REPORTED

These accident reports were released this past week by law enforcement agencies:

SHERIFF

290th Rd. east of Remington Rd.

Kathleen I. Svitak, 69, Pilsen, hit an icy patch at noon Feb. 14 with her 2019 Dodge Caravan, which slid into the left ditch and into a barbed wire fence.

According to one of seven accident reports released Friday, Svitak may have been injured in the accident but was not taken to a hospital by ambulance. Her minivan remained drivable with damage to its front.

Deputy Bruce Burke’s report blamed the wreck on driving inattentively and too fast for conditions, but no tickets were listed as being issued.

US-56 east of Limestone Rd.

Christian A. Bass, 25, Topeka, lost control of a 2019 Chevrolet Cruze on dry pavement at 6:14 a.m. Feb. 15. The car careened off the road to the left, crashing into a culvert.

Bass was not injured, according to deputy Peyton Heidebrecht’s report, but the Chevy, owned by Teresa M. Ulrich of Wichita, sustained disabling damage and was towed.

Baxton Bass of the same address was listed as a passenger, but his age was redacted from the open, public report, which did not identify a suspected cause of the wreck.

US-77 south of Lincolnville

Alan T. Cebula, 40, St. George, hit a deer with his 2015 Lincoln Navigator at 6:46 p.m. Feb. 16 and then drove to Lincolnville and parked at MFA Oil.

The SUV remained drivable with damage to its left front. Deputy Clayton Philpott reported being unable to determine where the wreck occurred.

Passengers in the SUV were identified as Amanda L. Cebula, 40, and three apparent children — Addilyn, Aizik, and Aurora — all of the same St. George address. The ages of the last three were redacted from the open, public report of the wreck.

K-15 south of 170th Rd.

Ashley M. Kurtz, 24, Lehigh, was seriously injured at 2:53 p.m. Feb. 17 when she fell asleep while driving her 2017 Dodge Durango. It crashed into the left ditch, became airborne, struck the ditch again, and rolled several times, coming to rest on its left side.

Kurtz was extricated from the wreckage by Goessel and Hillsboro firefighters and taken by Hillsboro ambulance to Wesley Medical Center, Wichita. Her sport-utility vehicle was listed as destroyed.

US-56/77/K-150 roundabout

Jose Luis Lopez Miranda, 22, Emporia, hit a curb in the Marion roundabout with his 2008 Dodge Caliber in snowy, windy weather at 5:18 a.m. Feb. 18.

The hatchback sustained disabling damage to its left front and undercarriage and was towed.

Passengers in the vehicle were identified as Carlos David Lopez Miranda, 21, and Jose Francisco Gaitain Ascensio, 33, both of unspecified Emporia addresses.

Deputy Bruce Burke’s report blamed the wreck on inattentive driving and driving too fast for conditions in addition to falling and blowing snow. No tickets were listed as being issued.

US-50 east of Wagon Wheel Rd.

April N. Cannizzaro, 40, San Diego, attempted to continue west in a 2017 Toyota Camry after hitting a curb in the US-50/77 Florence roundabout in snowy, windy weather.

The Toyota, owned by Melissa D. Franck of Troy, Missouri, stopped working at 2:45 p.m. Feb. 18 and had to be towed with disabling damage to its front third and undercarriage.

US-50/77 roundabout

Jeffrey D. Collins, 67, St. Joseph, Missouri, drove his 2023 Ford F-150 into a Florence roundabout curb on icy roads at 11:18 p.m. Feb. 18.

The pickup sustained disabling damage to its left front and undercarriage and was towed.

Deputy Joshua Meliza’s report blamed the wreck on inattentive driving, snowy weather, and icy roads. No tickets were listed as being issued.

MARION

Elm St. north of Denver St.

Neil P. Baker, 35, Marion, sideswiped a legally parked 2017 Honda Civic with his 2015 Dodge Durango on a snow-covered street near his home at 6:44 a.m. Friday.

Both vehicles remained drivable. The Honda, owned by Rebecca A. Thornton of a different Marion address, sustained damage to its left rear.

Baker’s sport-utility vehicle sustained what was termed minor damage to its right front.
