These accident reports were released this past week by law enforcement agencies:

SHERIFF

US-56 west of K-15 / Holly Rd.

Rogelio H. Caloca, 29, Lehigh, hit a deer at 5:35 a.m. May 9 with his 2008 Volkswagen Jetta, according to a report released Friday.

The car remained drivable with damage to its left front and hood.

Main St. west of Cedar St., Goessel

Inattentive driving and improper backing were blamed for a fender-bender at 11:01 a.m. May 9, but no tickets were reported to have been issued.

According to deputy Bruce Burke’s report, David R. Hakes, 63, rural Hillsboro, backed his westbound 2012 Jeep Liberty into an eastbound 2008 Acura RL owned and driven by Christine J. Stehman, 71, rural Goessel.

Lorna D. Hake, 62, of the same address, was a passenger in the Jeep.

The Jeep sustained damage characterized as minor to its rear. The Acura sustained more extensive damage to its left rear and trunk but remained drivable.

K-15 south of 130th Rd.

Travis Schafers, 49, Marion, hit an unidentified animal at 5:40 a.m. May 10 with his 2022 Ford F-150.

Damage to the left front of the pickup was characterized as minor.

US-56 east of Meridian Rd.

Shelby J. Wiens, 24, Moundridge, hit a deer at 8:25 p.m. May 10 with her 2016 Hyundai Veloster.

Damage to the front half and undercarriage of the vehicle was characterized as disabling, and the vehicle was towed by its owner.

Rayna L. Johnson, 24, Hillsboro, was a passenger.

US-50 west of Pawnee Rd.

An Arizona man passing a westbound semi-trailer truck hit an approaching eastbound semi at 3:15 p.m. May 11.

According to deputy Aaron Christner’s report, Christopher S. Brennan, 52, Fountain Hills, Arizona, had driven his 2016 Honda Odyssey across the centerline to pass.

His sport-utility vehicle sideswiped an approaching 2025 Freightliner owned by Lisle Truck Leasing and driven by Azixbek Isroilov, 28, Brooklyn, New York.

The semi sustained damage to its undercarriage. Brennan’s SUV sustained disabling damage to its left side and was towed.

Ryan Brennan, 21, also of Fountain Hills, was a passenger in the SUV.

No tickets were reported to have been issued.

US-56 east of Meridian Rd.

Sammy Jo Peterson, 25, Cottonwood Falls, hit a deer at 9:15 p.m. May 11 with her 2016 GMC Terrain.

The sport-utility vehicle sustained disabling damage to its front third, hood, and undercarriage and was towed.

Grand Ave. east of Ash St. in Hillsboro and Holly Rd. south of 190th Rd.

A police car driven by Hillsboro officer David D. Funk, 46, twice struck the rear of a stolen 2013 GMC Terrain he was pursuing between 6:20 and 6:25 a.m. May 13.

Deputy Bruce Burke investigated the collisions because they involved a Hillsboro officer.

Burke’s report blamed the driver of the stolen GMC, whom he identified as Fernando J. Figueroa-Rosello, 47, of Hutchinson.

Burke said Figueroa-Rosello had been driving recklessly or carelessly, speeding, attempting to avoid Funk’s squad car, and driving in an aggressive or antagonistic manner.

The report also states that the driver had an expired license.

The stolen GMC, owned by Guadalupe J. Sosme of Hillsboro, remained drivable with damage to its right rear and undercarriage.

Funk’s squad car also remained drivable with damage to its front and undercarriage.

Burke identified passengers in the stolen vehicle as Patric G. Patterson, 26, Lindsborg, and Javell Q. Evans, 20, Wichita.

Although no traffic tickets were listed as being issued, the three were booked into jail in McPherson County, where the chase began, after it concluded on Holly Rd. south of 190th Rd.

Figueroa-Rosello remained in McPherson County jail in lieu of a $13,000 bond on suspicion of three counts of vehicle burglary, conspiracy to commit burglary, criminal damage to property, and theft.

Patterson was being held in lieu of an $11,000 bond on suspicion of four counts of vehicle burglary and two counts of theft. He also was being held without bond for the Kansas Department of Corrections.

Evans was being held in lieu of $13,500 in bonds on suspicion of criminal damage, theft, four counts of vehicle burglary, and theft from a vehicle.

120th Rd. west of Chisholm Trail Rd.

Charles W. Meisinger, 85, rural Hillsboro, was found dead, trapped inside his 2008 Ford Ranger, shortly after 2 p.m. May 15. His westbound pickup had veered left off the roadway, hit a mailbox, crossed a driveway, and hit a tree at James Weins’ farm.

Deputy Landis Goodman’s report said Meisinger apparently had become ill while driving. His truck was listed as destroyed with damage in all areas.

Hillsboro ambulance and Goessel firefighters, rescue squad, and first responders were dispatched.

Nighthawk Rd. north of 110th Rd.

Jasmine N. Copenhaver, 21, Hillsboro, hit a deer at 10:05 p.m. Thursday with her 2020 Toyota Corolla.

Damage to the left front of her car was characterized as minor.

HILLSBORO

Alley in 100 block of N. Main St.

Veering off an alley while adjusting mirrors of a 2021 GMC Sierra, Carson J. Rhodes, 17, rural Durham, sideswiped a city utility pole with the truck’s brush guard.

The truck, owned by Marlin J. Wiebe of a different rural Durham address, was undamaged, but damage to the pole, valued at $500, was characterized as significant.
