These accident reports were released this past week by law enforcement agencies:

SHERIFF

120th Rd. east of Falcon Rd.

A 2017 Chevrolet Cruze owned and driven by Cindy M. Kahns, 41, Goessel, rear-ended a Waste Connections semi-trailer truck while it was stopped at 7:40 a.m. March 20 to pick up trash from a bin, according to a report released 16 days after the accident.

Kahns was listed as injured. According to monitored transmissions, she may have suffered a broken nose. She was picked up by a relative after declining to be taken to a hospital by Hillsboro ambulance.

Her car sustained disabling damage to its right front, hood, and windshield and was towed. Damage to the left rear of the trash truck was characterized as minor.

Deputy Aaron Christner’s report blamed the accident on Kahns’ being inattentive and distracted by a cell phone. No tickets were issued.

The trash truck operator, Eric Affolter, 40, Wichita, was not in the truck at the time.

US-77 north of 150th Rd.

A 2020 Toyota Corolla owned and driven by Krystle N. Smith, 37, Marion, hit a deer at 8:10 p.m. March 30.

Grayson Smith, 14, of the same address was a passenger.

The car sustained disabling damage to its front third, hood, and windshield and was towed.

US-56/77 south of 330th Rd.

A 2019 Dodge Caravan owned and driven by Kathlene I. Svitak, 68, rural Marion, hit a deer at 8:26 p.m. April 2.

Jeanette M. Bina, 71, of a different rural Marion address was a passenger.

Svitak’s van sustained disabling damage to its front third and undercarriage and was towed.

HILLSBORO

Main St. north of Grand Ave.

A 2015 Nissan Altima rear-ended a 2013 Toyota Camry at 9:27 a.m. April 1 as the Toyota was starting forward after being backed out of a diagonal parking space.

Officer John Huebert’s report blames the accident on the Altima’s owner and driver, Sara Jane N. Miller, 36, Hillsboro, being under the influence of illegal drugs and other medication and being an inattentive driver.

During investigation of the accident, Huebert’s report states, illegal drugs were found in her Altima, and she was arrested on drug and driving charges.

Her Nissan remained drivable with damage to its right front.

The Toyota, owned and driven by Grant A. Shewey, 30, Hillsboro, sustained damage characterized as minor to its rear and trunk.

Children Addilyn Shewey, 7, and Savannah Shewey, 5, of the same address were passengers.

Park Ave. east of Willow Rd.

Renee D. Ott, 63, rural Goessel, backed a Parkside Homes van into a 2000 Ford Ranger legally parked across the street at 4:23 p.m. April 1.

The pickup, owned by John A. Shewey of Hillsboro, remained drivable with damage to its driver’s side.

Officer John Huebert’s report listed negligible damage to the van, a 1993 Ford Club Wagon. No one other than the driver was in the van at the time.

Huebert blamed the accident on inattentive driving. He noted that Ott admitted not looking before backing but also was unaccustomed to people parking where the pickup was.

No tickets were issued.

MARION

Main St. west of 4th St.

A 2012 Volkswagen Jetta driven by Caden D. Wilhelm, 19, Marion, rear-ended a 2019 Nissan Sentra owned and driven by Angelia P. Wright, 62, Hillsboro, after Wright had slowed at 3:40 p.m. Thursday for a pedestrian in a crosswalk.

The Volkswagen, owned by Tara N. Barnett of the driver’s address, was not damaged, according to interim police chief Zach Hudlin’s report. Wright’s Nissan sustained damage that Hudlin termed minor to its rear.

No tickets were issued.
