These accident reports were released this past week by law enforcement agencies:

SHERIFF

US-56 east of K-256 / Remington Rd.

A 2008 Honda Accord owned and driven by Stephen A. Gayle, 59, Florence, hit a black trash can sitting in the road at 5:05 a.m. Jan. 15. Damage to the vehicle’s front was described as minor.

US-56 east of K-15 / Bison Rd.

The engine of a 1997 Suzuki Sidekick began smoking at 7:38 p.m. Jan. 20, and the car became engulfed in flames after driver Koehn H. Rivir, 18, Hillsboro, pulled over and got out.

Hillsboro firefighters were called, but the car, owned by Ronald K. Rivir of rural Canton, was listed as destroyed.

Indigo Rd. north of 140th Rd.

Steve A. Smith, 56, Newton, hit a deer at 6:48 a.m. Jan. 22 with his 2013 Fiat 500, which remained drivable with damage to its left front and hood.

Old Mill Rd. north of 60th Rd.

Brenden C.T. Scaglione, 17, Andover, lost traction on slick pavement while attempting to stop at 9:35 a.m. Jan. 22 and slid a 2010 Nissan Maxima into a street sign in the right ditch.

The car, owned by Laura A. Scaglione of the same address, sustained disabling damage to its left front and was towed.

Indigo Rd. north of 110th Rd.

Nathaniel D. Dudte, 22, Canton, hit a deer at 6:16 a.m. Thursday while driving a 2013 Ford Taurus owned by passenger Kielice G. Holsey, 23, of Peabody.

Baby Kiestan Montigny, 1, of the same Peabody address, also was a passenger.

The car sustained disabling damage to its front, hood, and windshield and was towed.

Sunflower Rd. south of 110th Rd.

Low visibility because of fog contributed to Kayla M. McPhail, 16, Newton, driving a 2006 Chevrolet Impala off the road and into a fence at 9:30 p.m. Thursday.

Deputy Kaylan Miles’s report also cited inattentive driving, but no tickets were issued.

The car, owned by Sheila K. Thouvenell of the same address, sustained damage characterized as minor to its left front, undercarriage, and rear.

HILLSBORO

100 block of Santa Fe St.

Hillsboro trash truck driver Christopher W. Cordell, 45, of Herington brushed his truck against a guard post at 9:40 a.m. Friday while trying to maneuver to get fuel at Cooperative Grain and Supply, 121 Santa Fe St.

Officer David Funk’s report said the guard post was scuffed and a hydraulic tank, wheel hub, and mudflap on the left side of the trash track, which is steered from the right, were damaged.

Undetermined location

Alexa M. Garza told police that a hit-and-run driver damaged her 2019 Ford Fusion while it was parked between 9 p.m. Saturday and 3 p.m. Sunday in a lot at Jost Hall on the Tabor College campus or earlier, when she had parked it at Casey’s General Store, 314 N. Ash St.

Officer John Huebert’s report states that the Ford, owned by Garza’s guardian, Edward C. Centilli of Devine, Texas, sustained minor damage to its right rear.

A Tabor College worker reviewed Jost Hall video from the period and told police no vehicle had come close enough to the car to have caused the damage.

MARION

900 block of Melvin St.

Shayta M. Rahe, 31, Marion, backed her 2020 Hyundai Elantra out of her driveway at 12:58 p.m. Jan. 22 and into a 2011 Toyota Camry legally parked across the street.

Damage to the left rear of her Hyundai and to the left rear wheel well of the Toyota, owned by Andrew C. Ellsworth of Herington was characterized as minor.

No tickets were issued.
