These accident reports were released this past week by law enforcement agencies:

SHERIFF

US-50 west of Turkey Creek Rd.

A hit-and-run driver who went to pass a slowed vehicle veered onto US-50’s right shoulder at 2:05 p.m. Oct. 11 sideswiped a 2011 Chevrolet HHR, owned and driven by Linda D. Catlin, 61, Florence.

Damage to the left rear of her sport-utility vehicle was termed minor.

Also riding in the SUV were Danielle M. Johnson, 23; Maria Caitlin, 6; and Gabriella Catlin, 2, all of the same Florence address.

290th and Mustang Rds.

Seth S. Kohman, 36, rural Hope, hit a deer at 7:15 a.m. Oct. 13 with his 2014 Dodge Journey, which sustained disabling damage to its front and hood but did not require a tow truck.

K-15 north of 180th Rd.

Chris R. McFadden, 66, rural Marion, was taken by Hillsboro ambulance to Hillsboro Community Hospital after he lost control of his 2016 Toyota Camry at 11 a.m. Oct. 13 while suffering from what deputy Bruce Burke’s report indicates was a medical condition.

McFadden’s car ran off the road to the left and hit a Flint Hills Rural Electric Cooperative power pole.

Passenger Debra A. McFadden, 60, of the same address also was reported as injured but was not listed as being taken to a hospital.

McFadden’s car, which Burke listed as destroyed, sustained damage to its front half, undercarriage, and windshield and was towed.

US-77 near 120th Rd.

Isaac L. Britton, 44, Marion, hit a deer at 6:19 p.m. Oct. 13 with his 2014 GMC Terrain. The SUV sustained damage described as minor to its left front.

K-150 east of Wagon Wheel Rd.

Veronica K. Willoughby, 33, Reading, hit a deer at 7:37 p.m. Oct. 13 while driving a 2021 Kia Sorento owned by Briggs Kia of Topeka.

The SUV remained drivable despite damage to its grill.

Passengers included Tonya K. Coppock, 55, and Rachael K. Coppock, 15, of Admire and Audrey K. Willoughby, 11, of Reading.

60th Rd. west of Remington Rd.

Weston T. Gaines, 18, rural Newton, hit a deer at 11:26 a.m. Oct. 14 while driving a 2022 Dodge Ram 2500.

The pickup, owned by Davon S. Gaines of the same address, remained drivable despite damage to its front end and undercarriage.

HILLSBORO

D St. just east of Ash St.

Edmund R. Grothe, 82, Hillsboro, failed to stop before making a right turn at 8:54 a.m. Saturday from northbound Ash St. into the far lane of eastbound D St., according to officer John Huebert’s report.

The left front of Grothe’s 2006 Buick Rendezvous clipped the right rear of a 2018 Jeep Compass coming from the south that had just stopped and turned east into that lane.

Both the Buick and the Jeep, owned and driven by Ashley R. Hoffman, 43, rural Marion, sustained damage characterized as minor. Kasen Britton, 8, and Ayden Britton, 12, were riding in Hoffman’s Jeep.

Huebert wrote that his report was based on a review of surveillance video from the intersection.

No tickets were issued.
