These accident reports were released this past week by law enforcement agencies:

SHERIFF

US-56 west of Wagon Wheel Rd.

Malfunctioning cruise control was blamed for a sport-utility vehicle rear-ending at 12:15 p.m. July 28 a school bus it been following as part of a group.

Gabriel P. Ridley, 19, Lawrence, said his 2023 Kia Sorento continued to speed up after he attempted to deactivate its cruise control and brake.

The SUV, owned by Michael A. Moore of a different Lawrence address, hit the rear of a 2023 Navistar school bus owned by Victory Driveaway of Elkhart, Indiana, and driven by Moore.

The SUV sustained disabling damage to its front half and undercarriage and was towed. The bus remained drivable despite damage to its rear third.

US-56 east of Meridian Rd.

Sheryl S. Cole, 75, Hillsboro, hit a deer at 8:07 a.m. July 31 with her 2019 Lincoln Nautilus, owned by Larry L. Cole of the same address.

The SUV sustained disabling damage to its right front and was towed.

Sunflower Rd. north of 180th Rd.

As was reported in a news story last week, Rosyln M.K. Kealy, 18, rural Peabody, was distracted at 12:55 p.m. Aug. 1, lost control of her 2003 Saturn Ion, overcorrected, and drove it through the opposite ditch and into a fence surrounding Marion’s sewerage lagoon.

The car, owned by David S. Kealy of the same address, sustained damage to its front, left, rear, and undercarriage but remained drivable.

One-year-old Harper L. Kealy was a passenger at the time.

US-56 north of 20th Rd.

Baylee B. Brandon, 20, Yates Center, hit a deer at 9:48 p.m. Aug. 1 while driving a 2011 Chevrolet Silverado owned by Lucille A. Crouch of a different Yates Center address.

Damage to the pickup was characterized as minor.

Kayla W. Floyd, 22, of a third Yates Center address was a passenger.
