These accident reports were released this past week by law enforcement agencies:

SHERIFF

Indigo Rd. south of 120th Rd.

As was preliminarily reported with a photograph in last week’s paper, James W. Bernhardt, 72, rural Marion was trapped and seriously injured at 12:57 p.m. April 4 when his 2001 Peterbilt 379 semi ran off the road to the right, came back and crossed the center line, then jackknifed and overturned.

He was taken to Wesley Medical Center, Wichita, on an emergency basis by Hillsboro ambulance.

Cattle aboard his semi’s trailer escaped and were rounded up by sheriff’s deputies and Goessel firefighters. The tractor and trailer were towed. Pavement at the accident site was gouged.

Deputy Steven Janzen blamed the accident on inattentive driving by Bernhardt, who was listed as not wearing a seat belt. No tickets were issued.

Nighthawk Rd. north of 110th Rd.

Quy T. Phan, 38, Wichita, hit a deer at 9:12 p.m. April 1 with his 2017 Lexis RX-3, which remained drivable despite damage to its left front.

HILLSBORO

700 block of Western Heights Circle

Claire K. Morey, rural Hillsboro, scraped the right side of her 2013 Toyota Siena at 7:10 p.m. April 4 while leaving a stall at Sonic Drive-In.
