No tickets were issued. Both vehicles were towed.

Debrah Hughbanks, 66, rural Lehigh, suffered disabling injuries and was taken to Hillsboro Community Hospital after Hendrich Laubscher, 22, rural Hillsboro, allegedly ignored a yield sign on Eagle Rd. at 12:12 p.m. Oct. 23 and drove his southbound 2016 Ford Explorer into an eastbound 2016 Ford F-350 in which Hughbanks was a passenger.

The pickup, which broke a utility pole into which it was pushed, sustained extensive damage and was towed. Owner and driver Steven L. Hughbanks, 68, of the same address also reported injuries but was not taken to a hospital. Passenger Shawn Hughbanks, 37, of the same address was not injured.

Laubscher’s SUV, owned by Steven D. Bartel of Laubscher’s rural Hillsboro address, sustained less extensive damage and was removed by its owner.

Deputy Derek Fetrow’s report blamed the accident on Laubscher’s inattentive driving and failure to yield, but no tickets were issued.

MARION

200 block of Elm St.

A tow truck was needed at 2 p.m. Friday after Arwen I. Fay, 16, Marion, was distracted by a mobile phone and hit a driveway curb while driving a 2021 Hyundai Sonata owned by Heather A. Fay, also of Marion.

Another 16-year-old girl was a passenger, but contrary to normal practice, her name was censored from the public report of the accident.

Although police chief Clinton Jeffrey’s report attributed the accident to distraction from a cell phone and other activity in the car, no tickets were issued.
