REPORTED

These accident reports were released this past week by law enforcement agencies:

SHERIFF

US-50/77 roundabout at Florence

A 2002 Dodge Ram 1500 driven by Michael McDaniel, 46, of West Covina, California, rear-ended a 2000 Dodge Ram 2500 driven by Albert Smith, 75, of Peabody at 6:30 a.m. June 23.

Deputy Travis Wilson’s report states that McDaniel was inattentive and following too closely, but no citations were issued.

90th Rd. east of Meridian Rd.

Two Moundridge teenagers clinging to a tree were rescued after a 2005 Saturn Ion they were riding in became submerged in floodwater and floated 100 feet off the roadway, into a field.

Neither driver Melanie Lee, 18, nor passenger Kara Shugars, 17, both of the same Moundridge address, reported injury. The car, owned by Kristy L. Brunk of Newton, was left at the scene.

Deputy Matthew Regier’s report states that Lee was not a licensed driver, but no citations were issued.

US-56 east of Holly Rd.

With standing water covering the roadway on a rainy, windy evening, Kyler M. Hoppes, 20, McPherson, hydroplaned his 2006 Dodge Charger into a ditch and a Kansas Department of Transportation fence at 9:38 p.m. June 25. The car was towed.

MARION

1200 block of Kellison St.

Todd Winter, 44, Marion, was seriously injured when a 2021 Polaris Razor XP on which he was riding entered a ditch and turned onto its side, pinning Winter beneath it at 7:11 p.m. Sunday.

Winter was taken to Wesley Medical Center, Wichita, by Marion ambulance. Utility terrain vehicle driver Russell Hake, 52, Marion, reportedly was not injured. Neither man was wearing a seat belt, according to police.

An accident report was not yet available Tuesday, but police chief Clinton Jeffrey said preliminary investigation indicated that Hake lost control of the vehicle while it was eastbound on Kellison and that it entered the street’s north ditch and turned onto its side.

Jeffrey declined to release additional information Tuesday.
