These accident reports were released this past week by law enforcement agencies. No information was released the previous week by Marion County sheriff’s office because of staff time off.

SHERIFF

Adams and 2nd Sts., Hillsboro

Corey Brandt, 18, Hillsboro, was driving a 1999 Kia Sportage south on Adams St. at 9:32 a.m. Jan. 12 when he reportedly lost control of the vehicle on the snow-covered road. The Sportage jumped a curb and hit a utility pole and gas meter, causing a gas leak. The vehicle received minor damage. Brandt was cited for driving faster than conditions allowed.

US-77 south of 280th Rd.

Viet Phan, 18, Wichita, was driving south in a 2007 Honda CRV when it left the highway, entered the west ditch, and struck a wood post at 3:50 p.m. Jan. 9. Deputy Mike Ottensmeier reported inattention contributed to the accident. No citation was issued, and the vehicle was driven away.

Goldenrod Rd. south of US-56

A 2006 Honda Civic driven by Katelin Riddle, 19, Hillsboro, slid off an icy roadway and struck a ditch embankment at 10:50 p.m. Jan. 15. The vehicle was towed.

US-56 east of Eisenhower St.

Deanne Nelson, 53, Hillsboro, struck and killed a deer with her 2014 Hyundai Sonata at 6:27 p.m. Jan. 14. Nelson and two passengers were not injured. The vehicle was towed.

Sunflower Rd. north of 150th Rd.

Caleb McIrvin, 34, Newton, was driving north in a 2000 Ford F-150 when he lost control on the icy roadway at 11:12 a.m. Jan. 11. The truck went into the west ditch and then came back onto the road where it struck a 2006 Chevrolet Impala driven by Leslie Meador, 54, Marion. Deputy Travis Wilson reported McIrvin was driving too fast for conditions, but no citation was issued. Both vehicles were towed.

150th and Diamond Rds.

Evan Abbott, 16, Goessel, was driving a 2000 Toyota Echo, owned by Christopher Phillips of Goessel, and following a 2002 Buick Regal driven by Chelan Duerksen, 42, Goessel at 4:35 p.m. Jan. 15. As the Regal slowed to make a turn from 150th Rd. onto Diamond Rd., it was struck from behind by the Echo, causing the Regal to leave the road and overturn. Neither driver was injured. Deputy D.M. Harper-Heald reported Abbott was following too closely and issued a citation for driving faster than was reasonable and prudent. The Regal was towed.

290th Rd. east of K-15

Ira Walker, 69, Lincolnville, was driving a 2009 Dodge Ram 2500 when the truck hit an ice patch at 9:59 p.m. Jan. 12. The truck left the road, struck the north ditch, went through a barbed wire fence, and came to rest in a field. Walker was not injured. The truck was towed.

US-56 east of K-168

Phoosit Nimpear, 39, Sun Valley, California, was driving a 2012 Volvo 240 semitrailer when he lost control on the icy road and jackknifed into the south ditch at 11 a.m. Jan. 11. Deputy Travis Wilson issued a citation for driving too fast for conditions. Nimpear was not injured. A tow truck was needed to remove the truck from the ditch.

Pawnee and 160th Rds.

Jan Fabricius, 59, Nashville, Tennesse, was driving west on 160th Rd. in a 2017 Nissan Altima owned by Hertz Vehicles at 4:19 p.m. Jan. 17 when she could not come to a complete stop due to icy road conditions. The Altima struck a northbound 2016 Ford Escape driven by Kim Unruh, 64, Marion. Neither driver was injured. Deputy Aaron Slater reported Fabricius was driving too fast for conditions but did not issue a citation. Both vehicles were driven from the scene.
