According to accident reports released Friday:
US-56/77 south of 350th Rd.
A 2005 GMC Sierra driven by Ryan Nelson, 52, Towanda, was southbound when it was struck on the driver’s side by a pickup towing a trailer that crossed the centerline at 1:30 p.m. March 30. Sheriff’s deputy Travis Wilson reported the pickup did not stop and continued north. The vehicle was driven from the scene.
70th Rd. east of Diamond Rd.
A 2014 Volkswagen Tiguan driven by Claire Williams, 41, Newton, was northbound on Diamond Rd. when it failed to make a right turn on 70th Rd. and went into the ditch, striking a phone box, at 1 p.m. March 31. Sheriff’s deputy Travis Wilson issued citations alleging driving faster than reasonable and prudent for conditions, operating a vehicle in violation of driver’s license restrictions, no proof of liability insurance, and failure to properly notify property owner of damage. The vehicle was towed from the scene.
US-50 east of Mustang Rd.
Jason Johnson, 44, Derby, Iowa, was westbound driving a 1997 Ford F-150 and towing a trailer when the vehicle struck a bump going over a bridge. The trailer came loose from the hitch, breaking the safety chains, and struck a culvert in the north ditch at 2:40 p.m. April 6. The truck was undamaged and driven from the scene.
60th Rd. west of Timber Rd.
A 2002 Ford Mustang driven by Kiefer Larsen, 17, Peabody, caught fire as he was making a U-turn at the intersection of 60th and Timber Rds. at 4:15 p.m. April 7. The vehicle was destroyed.
