U.S. 50 west of Union Rd.

Brandon R. Burns, 40, of 24 Caribou Circle, St. Joseph, Mo. was attempting to use a passing lane to pass a truck at 2:20 p.m. Jan. 17 when the other truck sped up to prevent Burns from passing, swerved at him twice, and then pulled into the passing lane, striking the 2014 Volvo registered to Pensek Truck Leasing Co. LP that Burns was driving. The truck did not stop and continued eastbound on U.S. 50. Police reported no injuries.

U.S. 56 east of Falcon Rd.

Jacob Troy Garver, 23, of 1011 N. Ash St., Newton, drove over a piece of cut firewood that broke the engine crankcase pan on his 2008 Chevrolet sedan at 7:20 a.m. Jan. 27. The vehicle had to be towed. Police reported no injuries.

Deer strikes

Sidney K. Robinson, 58, of 506 Park Ave., Florence, struck and killed a deer with a 2006 Chevrolet pickup registered to ARI Fleet LT, 9000 Midlantic Dr., Mount Laurel, N.J., at 7 a.m. Jan. 22 on U.S. 77 north of 105th Rd.

Jeremy L. Bruch, 40, of 1614 Huxman St., Hutchinson, struck a deer with his 1999 Ford at 6:30 p.m. Jan. 24 on U.S. 56 east of Cedar St. in Marion.

Brenda L. Maddox, 52, of 127 N. Roosevelt St., Marion, struck and killed a deer with a 2001 Chevrolet pickup registered to Danny L. Maddox, same address, at 6:30 p.m. Jan. 26 on Sunflower Rd. north of 110th Rd.
