A memorial service for Terril Lynn “Terry” Eberhard, 75, who passed away March 21, 2023, will be 10 a.m. Saturday, April 1, at St. Paul’s Lutheran Church in Peabody. A meal for relatives and friends will follow in Fellowship Hall for family and friends. Graveside services will be later,

Terry was born March 1, 1948, at Bethel Deaconess Hospital in Newton. He was the only child of Charles and Neysa Eberhard.

Terry spent his childhood on a farm near Peabody, where he attended kindergarten through 12th grade. He graduated in 1966 from Peabody High School.

During his time in high school, Terry was an active member of Future Farmers of America. He had several officer positions and received a State Farmer Award, the highest honor given to FFA members.

He was successful in raising hogs and sheep, owning more than 400 head of sheep at one time.

After high school, Terry attended Kansas State University. He graduated in 1970 with a degree in agriculture education.

Terry then joined the National Guard and later transferred to the Army Reserve.

Terry started his career in banking, first working for a land bank in Ness City and later for Production Credit Association in El Dorado.

After his father passed away, Terry retired from banking and returned to the farm, where he grew the size of the cattle and farming operation.

Terry was an active member of his community, serving eight years on the Peabody-Burns school board and 37 years on the Doyle Valley Watershed District board.

He was a proud KSU alumnus and had season tickets to KSU football games for many years.

Terry found joy in working in the field, fixing equipment, and harvesting crops. He loved spending time with relatives and friends over a cup of coffee or while driving his truck on country roads.

Terry was preceded in death by his parents, Neysa and Charles Eberhard.

He is survived by his aunt, Betty Schelske of Gainesville, Florida; a number of cousins, other family members; Joseph Lopez and spouse Bailey; and his longtime canine companion, Sheba.

Memorial contributions can be made in his name to the Peabody-Burns FFA chapter, the Peabody Community Foundation, or St. Paul’s Lutheran Church.

Contributions can be sent to Petersen Funeral Home, 215 N Main St, Newton KS 67114.
