$1 million gift to provide Tabor scholarships
A new donation by J.E. and L.E. Mabee Foundation will allow Tabor College to award at least three $10,000 scholarships annually to full-time students from Arkansas, Kansas, Missouri, New Mexico, Oklahoma, or Texas who maintain 3.00 grade-point averages.
The $1 million endowment, announced Monday, brings to $6 million gifts Tabor has received from the foundation.
John and Lottie Mabee, who made their fortune in oil, created the foundation in 1948.
Scholarship recipients will be expected to model a strong work ethic, generosity, integrity, honesty, and humility as they pursue their education.
“We hope and pray that it will yield hard-working, humble leaders to address key issues and create a more equitable future for all,” Ron Braun, Tabor’s vice president for philanthropy, said in a news release.
