Although being held almost a month later than usual this year due to the “big flood,” the annual Old Settlers Day Reunion appears to be carrying more appeal than ever. Days before the event visitors, both young and old, began arriving for a vacation and visit with friends.

“We hope to have the proposed construction started by November 1st,” John Riddle, president of Riddle Quarries, Inc., stated in answer to a question about the proposed new flood-relief housing project undertaken by his corporation.

According to Riddle, 11 of the 15 homes to be constructed are already spoken for, leaving only four yet to be sold.

An event, billed as being of interest to anyone who likes horses and good fun, will be held this Sunday at the Cottonwood Valley Saddle Horse Association grounds east of Marion. The “Cowhand’s Frolic’ is a combination of cowboy games and riding exhibition — fun for the participants, as well as spectators.

“Jerry Breaks a Date” will be presented Friday in the high school auditorium by the Junior High School. The cast includes Marion Summervill, Jeannette Russell, Jerald Stage, Kay Navrat, Carmen Siebert, and Dick Hoch. There also will be a chalk talk by Lenore Wheeler and Marion Summervill.

Jess Coons, Scotty Gound, Charles Winkley, Clive Jarvis, Bill Ward, and Art Coons of DesMoines, Iowa, expect to leave Friday on a deer hunting trip to Walden, Colorado.

Mr. and Mrs. George Washburn, Newton, have announced plans to open a recreation parlor with snooker, pool, and dominoes in the Bogart building previously occupied by the ice cream parlor.
