5-year-old, cookies, memorial gardener among contest winners

This year’s cover girl, 5-year old Callie Diepenbrock, daughter of Lance and Selena Diepenbrock of Lincolnville, won a giant stocking filled with candy, toys, movie and snacks for having her coloring contest entry selected at random in the Record’s annual Christmas contests.

Lois Johnson of Marion was the winner of a $25 gift certificate to Wagon Wheel Express, Marion, for her holiday recipe:

Egg white cookies

• 2 egg whites
• ½ teaspoon cream of tartar
• ½ cup sugar
• Black walnut pieces - ( optional)

Beat egg whites until foamy, then add cream of tartar, beat until dry, then add sugar and nuts if added. Have oven preheated to 350 degrees. Put cookies on cookie sheet by spoonfuls, put into oven, turn oven off and go to bed. Do not open or peek.

James and Melinda Schroeder, 202 S. Freeborn St., Marion, won a $25 gift certificate to Town and County Restaurant, Florence, for their huge array of lights, scenes, and holiday messages.

A gift basket went to Give Back Giveaway winner Margaret Harris at 2267 Alfalfa Rd., honored in part for her steadfast work maintaining a floral tribute to Joan Meyer, who died after later-disavowed police raids Aug. 11. Donors included:
