Four Marion High School juniors have been chosen by the American Legion and Legion Auxiliary to attend Girls State and Boys State in June on the campus of the University of Kansas in Lawrence.

The girls are Cheri Bell and Judy Pankratz. Alternates are Toni McElwain and Mary Westerhaus. The boys are Norman Bowers and George Jackson with Wally Slusser as alternate.

The library board announces the appointment of Mrs. Leroy Riggs as Marion city librarian. She replaces Mrs. Wm. Caselman who is moving to Grand Junction, Colorado, to join her husband who is employed there.

One of nature’s unusual events, a natural birth of triplet calves, occurred early last week at the Lloyd Pagenkopf farm north of Lincolnville. Pagenkopf has already received an attractive offer for the calves from Kansas State University, but has decided that he wants to keep them.

George Jackson, Marion junior, was selected to the Topeka Daily Capital “east central” all-area basketball first team and to the honorable mention line-up of the all-state team.
