An era and a county landmark will end this Friday when Cedar Rest, the former county “poor farm” will be sold at auction. Land, building, fixtures, and remaining contents of the imposing 3-story stone structure southwest of Marion will go on the auctioneer’s block and the county’s first noble effort at taking care of its indigent, more unfortunate citizens will become history.

Pilsen CYO was winner of the Newton Deanery one-act play contest held Nov. 22 in the Pilsen school hall. Cast members were Kathy Kroupa, Anita Rudolph, Robert Holub, Linda Loney, Tommy Dvorak, Richard Stika, and Danny Rudolph.

Kansas State University students recently appointed to command positions in the Air Force ROTC Cadet Wing include Harold Socolofsky of Ramona, Jon Peters of Lehigh, and Jim Loomis of Marion.

The Community Guild Christmas program is Dec. 1 in the Methodist church sanctuary. It will feature some of the most talented musicians of the community. Some of the music is especially arranged by Mrs. William Staub. Miss Irma Wymore will be narrator with the narration being contributed by Mrs. E.D. Longhofer.
