Voters of Marion County will be asked to decide whether to continue with the county-owned Cedar Rest nursing home at Peabody when they go to the polls Tuesday.

This edition reports planned 50th anniversary celebrations for two couples. An open house at the Marion County Lake hall April 5 will honor Mr. and Mrs. Everett Bowman. A reception honoring Mr. and Mrs. Milt Hiebert will be April 7 at Emmanuel Baptist Church.

Seven Marion High basketball players were named to the Cottonwood Valley League’s all-league basketball teams last week. Boys named were Brian Allen, Kevin Jirak, Greg Boyle, and Aaron Hett. Girls were Jami Shirley, Lori Hett, and Linda Williams.

Audrey Alvarez, daughter of Delora Alvarez of Lost Springs, has been selected by Howard Dickerson American Legion Auxiliary to attend Girls State this spring at Lawrence. Beth Beneke was selected as alternate.

Don’t speed down S. 3rd St. Friday. If last year is any indication, there probably will be a line of people extending to the corner of 3rd and Water Sts. waiting to get into Lynn’s Farm Equipment for its 15th annual free pancake and sausage day.
