44 points not enough for Junior Warriors as Wakefield scores 102

The scorebook showed 146 points Thursday night in the football game between Peabody-Burns Junior High School and Wakefield. The Junior Warriors lost at Wakefield, 102-44. Up next for the squad is a Thursday home match-up with White City.

Wakefield earned a safety to put up the first points in the game.

The Bombers returned the ensuing PBJHS free kick for a score. They added a 2-point conversion and Wakefield led, 10-0, with 7 minutes, 32 seconds on the clock in the first quarter.

Wakefield added two more scores in the next two minutes, but Junior Warrior Clayton Philpott put Peabody-Burns on the board with a 65-yard run. Philpott connected with Brady Logan-Hanan for the 2-point conversion. Wakefield led, 24-8, with 5:11 on the clock.

Wakefield added two more scores before PBJH defensive player Ezequiel Trevino recovered a fumble and set up the next Junior Warrior scoring drive from their own 9-yard line. Philpott hit Cody Partridge for a 60-yard pass play and Partridge ended up on the Bomber 1-yard line. Trevino was the target of the 1-yard pass play that gave the Junior Warriors their second score of the contest. The point-after kick failed. Still in the first quarter, the score favored the Wakefield crew, 40-14.

With 2:38 on the clock in the first, Wakefield again added a touchdown and a 2-point conversion.

Philpott answered for the PBJHS team with a 15-yard touchdown pass to Jayton Scott. The conversion was unsuccessful. The Junior Warriors trailed, 48-20, with less than a minute in the first period.

The scoring was not over in the first quarter as Wakefield scored with 29 seconds left on the clock. The Junior Warriors also added one more touchdown with a Philpott 65-yard kick-off return. A 2-point conversion was added on a Philpott to Partridge pass and the score with 15 seconds left in the period was 56-28.

Wakefield finished the first quarter scoring with a kick-off return for a score. At the end of the first quarter, Wakefield had the 64-28 advantage.

A PBJHS fumble gave the Bombers their next score early in the second period. PBJHS also added another score on a 60-yard Philpott run. Philpott connected with Partridge for 2 on the conversion and PBJH, trailed 72-36.

With 5 minutes left in the half, Wakefield scored again to increase the lead, 80-36.

Trevino recovered a second fumble in the contest and set up the next PBJHS scoring drive. Philpott scored the 30-yard touchdown run and ran the 2-point conversion. With 2:36 left in the first half, the score favored the Bombers, 80-44.

Wakefield returned the kickoff for a score and added a conversion to add the last points in the first half. The score at halftime was 88-44.

Early in the third quarter, Wakefield added two more scores and the game ended at the end of the third quarter. PBJHS was defeated, 102-44.
