For the second year in a row, the City of Marion placed first in community development at the annual PRIDE awards convention held Saturday in Salina. Marion placed highest among the 12 cities of comparable population entered in the competition. PRIDE judges said the city received 100 out of a possible 100 points.

Drivers were less than pleased this week when animal traffic on county roads reached a peak. Four animals, three deer and one cow, were killed as they crossed paths with motorists.

Soccer has been learned and enjoyed by a number of Marion children this past spring and fall. The group will re-form in the spring.

Playing against Hillsboro on Saturday were Jason Bina, Chris Blackman, Dane and Chad Christensen, Thad and Dodie Cork, Dale Heidebrecht, Mike Helmer, Andy Hett, Larry McLain, Sheri and Lori Plenert, Charlotte and Eric Thies, and Brad and Greg Tice.

St. Luke Hospital moved another step closer in plans to build a health clinic near the hospital at 1014 E. Melvin. The hospital board of directors has accepted a bid from Abbott Construction, Salina, to build the 4,800 square foot complex equipped for three doctors’ offices and one dentistry practice.

Marion football Warriors battled their last foe of the season Friday to take third place at the end of a 5-4 season.

According to Extension Home Economist Debra Byarlay, a Christmas Ideas Fair will usher in the holiday season when the Extension Council sponsors its third annual fair Nov. 21 at the Hillsboro City Building.
