The major item of business at the regular meeting of the Marion City commission Monday afternoon was the proposed new bridge on South Third. Construction is expected to start next summer and will take about three months.

One of the hottest items to be sold at the Senior Center benefit auction Saturday will be the autographed baseball donated by George Brett of the Kansas City Royals. He inscribed the ball especially for the Marion Builders, to be offered at the auction.

Festivities begin Friday for the annual homecoming celebration at Marion High School. Students will cast their vote for one of three candidates for 1960 homecoming queen, Gena Helmer, Lanell Tajchman, or Tammy Sandwell. Escorting the candidates will be Greg Boyle, Aaron Hett, and Kevin Jirak.

Former teachers and students of the Sunflower school district and their families met at the Marion County Lake hall Oct. 5 for their fourth annual reunion. Thirty-eight were in attendance at the potluck dinner.

Members of the Thimble Club voted when they met Oct. 9 to make a donation to the fund to purchase bullet-proof vests for the Marion policemen.

The 200th anniversary of the Methodist Sunday School will be celebrated at Aulne United Methodist Church this coming Sunday. The founding of the Sunday school will be observed during the morning worship service with the Rev. Freda Steele, pastor, speaking.
