Classes started Monday in Marion and Florence school buildings with approximately 611 students enrolled so far and 49 teachers employed by the district. Thirteen new faculty members, including 12 teachers and one administrator, have joined the staffs at the three attendance centers.

If engineering estimates are correct, Marion County stands to pick up 12 new bridges for the price of nine, according to Steve Berland, consultant engineer for BG Engineering, Manhattan.

Construction bids on nine bridges were lower than anticipated and commissioners decided Monday to use the surplus to replace three more bridges.

Jogging can become addictive, according to some Marion residents who are involved in the sport. Those reporting on how they enjoy the activity are Dr. Caleb Abbott and his wife, Barbara, Lori Harris, Alex Case Jr., Polly Ferrell, and Larry Loomis.

Martin Tice of Marion is a man of many talents. The former high school administrator is not only in the business management, accounting, investment, and real estate lines — he also is an auctioneer. Tice has just returned from Kansas City where he successfully completed the course in auctioneering and auction sales management at Missouri Auction School.
