When a giant oak in Central Park blew down several months ago, the Alden Slusser family agreed to pay for having the damaged tree carved into a thing of beauty to honor where their children and grandchildren loved to play.
Tree sculptor Gino Salerno will carve the six-foot stump into an attractive and lasting monument titled “A Child at Play.”
County commissioners purchased eight grills for the county lake from Vogel Manufacturing of Marion after discovering they were of better quality and much cheaper than those proposed by an Illinois-based company.
Florence Middle School’s volleyball team won the Cottonwood Valley Junior League championship Thursday, the first time for the Wildcats since 1986.
Team members throughout the season were Lisa Buchholz, Jenny Christiansen, Sara Cleeton, Misty Creamer, Sarah Crofoot, Carrie Darrow, Jamie Davis, Shannon Hoffer, Angie Moore, Renee Reiswig, Erika Secrest, and Natali Toupin.
