2nd COVID booster available
Staff writer
Qualifying people who want to enhance their immunity to COVID-19 can now get a second vaccine booster shot.
To qualify for a second booster, patients must be older than 50 or have a compromised immune system.
First booster shots must have been received at least four months ago.
Marion County health department already is administering second boosters.
Health department director Krista Schneider said qualifying people can get Moderna, Pfizer and Johnson & Johnson boosters at the health department.
Nurses will give vaccines Mondays, Wednesdays, and Fridays. An evening vaccine clinic will be open on a monthly basis.
A large-scale vaccine clinic will be organized if needed, Schneider said.
The Food and Drug Administration recommends a second booster because evidence indicates a waning protection level over time for older people and those with compromised immune systems.
