Judy Harder and Larry Warkentin have been selected as 2022 inductees of Tabor College’s Arts Hall of Fame.

Between the two, they have 60 years of teaching communications, choral music, and theatre.

Harder was a theatre adjunct at Tabor from 1987 until she completed her master’s degree in 1989. Tabor then hired her as assistant professor of communications. She taught public speaking and theater classes and developed the communications department. Her primary efforts came in theater, directing more than 120 productions.

She received the Clarence Hiebert Award for Excellence in Teaching in 2001 and was promoted to associate professor in 2007. She retired in 2013 and received emeritus status.

Warkentin spent 36 years teaching music theory and composition and as music department chair at Fresno Pacific University. He also is a prolific composer, including creating hymns in “Worship Hymnal,” “Sing Alleluia,” “Hymnal: A Worship Book,” and “Covenant Hymnal.”

A music education major and president of the Tabor choir before his graduation, he completed his master’s degree at Fresno State in 1964 and taught part-time at Pacific College.

He later received a doctorate in choral and church music from the University of Southern California.

In 1978, he was commissioned by Mennonite World Conference to write an orchestral work for its international assembly. He later wrote the Fresno Pacific University Song, which serves as a traditional piece for the college’s graduation ceremony. He received emeritus status after his 2002 retirement.

An induction ceremony is planned for Sept. 10 in the Shari Flaming Center for the Arts.
