Trash recycling will be established in Marion as soon as legal ordinances can be passed and published to implement the change in the city utility rate. The proposal presented by Pure Country Environmental Systems, Marion-based recycling business will cost households $3 per month in addition to the current $9 per month trash charge.

Marion Hardware is under new ownership and management. In January, Tom and Ken Koslowsky of Hillsboro purchased it from Jim Chamberland. They also own and operate the Hillsboro Hardware store.

Burns mayor Jack Bruner reports preliminary work in Burns began this past week on the movie, “Mars Attacks,” directed by Tim Burton of
“Batman” fame.

Quilts and a quartet concert are the newest entries to be added to the menu of activities planned for the third annual Hillsboro Smoked Sausage Festival to be held March 16 on the campus of Tabor College.

Marion Chamber of Commerce ambassadors presented a welcome plaque this week to Brian Hedgecock of Aunt Matilda’s Pantry at 1204 E. Main and attended the grand reopening of the Kraft Korner’s new location at 402 E. Main.

Marion County Clerk and Chief Election Officer Marquetta Eilerts has seen county politics up close and personal, and sometimes nasty. So, the question is raised, why is she running for Third District county commissioner?

“This county has a lot invested in me,” she said Thursday. “And I have a lot to offer the county.”

Hundreds of bald eagles make Marion County their winter home, perching in tall trees along the Cottonwood River banks and near Marion Reservoir. One of the big birds, symbol of American patriotism, was photographed in a tree at the west edge of Marion.
