The Oklahoma City bombing was the top Associated Press news story in Kansas during 1995. Those charged with the crime had links to both Herington and Marion. Terry Nichols had lived east of Marion for nearly a year and moved to Herington a few days before the April 19 bombing.

Marion County commissioners Linda Peterson, Charles DeForest, and Leon Suderman are pictured on the front page as they closed out 1995 with two meetings, one to approve warrants and payroll for the month of December, and the other to transfer some funds as carry-over to 1996.

Otto Lehmann, prominent Lincolnville businessman and community leader, is the subject of an article written by staff writer Rowena Plett. Otto was elected to the Lincolnville city council in 1944 and soon after was elected mayor. He won re-election for nearly 25 years.

Marge Endres of rural Marion was honored with an all-day reception Friday as she retired after 31 years with Central National Bank of Marion County. She is looking forward to retirement but knows she will miss the day-to-day contact with customers.

Exchange student Kikuko Higashino of Nagasaki, Japan, is attending Marion High School while living with host parents, Doug and Joy Vogel of Marion and their daughters Alex and Briana.

David W. Montgomery, longtime manager of Scully Estates office in Marion, died this past weekend in Norwood, Massachusetts, where he had been residing for the past few months.
