Nicole Kristin Reid of Emporia won the Marion County Record’s 1988 First Baby contest, arriving at St. Luke Hospital at 1:42 a.m. Sunday. She is the daughter of James and Tena Reid of Emporia.

Mrs. Frank Vlk of Marion won the Marion County Record’s annual holiday season subscription contest this year and was rewarded with a $150 shopping spree. She selected Quality Food Market as where she would do her shopping. Other award winners were Henry Everett of Durham, a $75 award, and Marion Parrack of Marion, a $50 award.

Stanley Anderson of Marion has been reappointed by national commander Earl L. Stock Jr. of the Veterans of Foreign of Wars to serve as a national aide-de-camp for the coming year.

Sandra Slider, 34, a native of Lyons, has joined the staff of the Marion County Record as a reporter.

Mary Ann Conyers received an associate degree in nursing Dec. 17 at Butler County Community College. Conyers graduated as an honor student and is a member of the Order of the Purple. She is employed full time at St. Luke Hospital.

Frances Wynn of Marion has purchased the franchise to operate Jaconi’s Pizza Parlor locally. She took over operation Jan. 1.
