GOLF:   2020 grad misses chance to lead team

As a qualifier for last year’s state golf tournament, Goessel senior Dylan Lindeman was expected to lead the team by example this season.

After competing at state last year, he was hoping to break 90 on the scorecard regularly this season.

Joining him on the team were letter winners Caiden Duerksen, who scored under 100 once last year, and Alyssa Burkholder.

Coach Chad Lindeman saw opportunities for younger golfers to experience varsity golf competition and hopes for consistency and improvements in managing their golf game on different golf courses.

As players gained confidence, he saw the regional tournament as a test for concentration and skill. The Bluebirds finished fourth as a team at regional last year, one place shy of going to state as a team.

Class 1A’s 2020 state tournament was scheduled for late May at Emporia Municipal Golf Course.

The Bluebirds were to begin the season April 7 at Herington, and then April 9 at Hillsboro Golf Course.
