County commissioners met in special session Friday to implement a burn ban to discourage open burning within the county because of extremely dry and windy conditions.

Announced in this issue are upcoming celebrations of the 60th wedding anniversary of Irvin and Pauline McPheeters of Peabody and the 40th anniversary of Dwight and Jane Gooding.

Marion Junior Girl Scout Troop 58 has organized a free babysitting service with donations received to go to benefit a fellow Girl Scout troop in Alabama.
