Hillsboro and Peabody-Burns were the only schools in the county that played games Friday night.
On the road, Hillsboro’s girls beat Pratt 37-21.
“We were a little sluggish, but the girls played hard,” coach Micah Ratzlaff said. “Looking forward to getting back in shape and building off the success we have had to this point.”
Ella Potucek led the team, scoring 16 points.
Talia Jost crashed the boards for 10 rebounds, five on offense and five on defense.
“Good win coming off of Christmas break,” Ratzlaff said.
Hillsboro’s boys were unable to mimic the girls’ performance against Pratt, losing 67-31.
“We went into this season knowing we didn’t have varsity experience and we are gaining more each game,” coach Kyle Kroeker said.
Braxton Hiebert led the boys with 10 points, followed by Koehn Janzen with seven.
“We continue to improve, show growth, and I am proud of these guys and their willingness to battle every night,” Kroeker said.
Hillsboro will have the night off Friday but will hit the road Tuesday to play against Haven.
Peabody-Burns also played Friday night, at home against Central Burden.
The girls lost 49-17, and the boys lost 59-29.
Peabody-Burns also will have the night off this Friday. The Warriors will hit the road Tuesday to play against Elyria Christian.
