190th Rd. to be repaired

A federal grant will pay for repairs to an eroded and collapsing section of 190th Rd.
County commissioners were notified Monday that the county was awarded a grant through the U.S. Department of Agriculture National Resources Conservation Service. The $415,500 grant requires a $138,500 local match, and repair work must be completed by June 1.
The damaged section is next to a bend in the South Cottonwood River just east of Remington Rd. Flooding from heavy rainfall in the spring and summer resulted in erosion of the roadbed and partial collapse of the guardrail on the south side of the road. Commissioners earlier closed the road as a safety measure while they sought a way to fix the problem.
In August, Matt Meyerhoff, supervising district conservationist, presented data on excessive rainfall and encouraged commissioners to apply for a grant that helps with erosion issues posing imminent hazard to life or property.
In other business Monday, commissioners reviewed a letter from accounting firm Allen, Gibbs, and Houlik advising them to prepare for changes to the Fair Labor Standards Act that require overtime pay for employees who make less than $47,476 per year. Although the new overtime rule is being challenged by 21 states and business groups, AGH doesn’t believe the challenges will succeed in time to delay the Dec. 1 deadline.
Commissioners also voted to spend up to $500 for EBH and Associates Engineers to coordinate any inspection of the Straub building, which the county is considering for a new county shop.
