18-year-old, baby leave wrecked car

Staff writer

Marion police officer Duane McCarty spotted a wrecked car at 1:32 p.m. Tuesday on the north edge of 180th Rd.

No one was in the vehicle. No one had reported an accident. Concerned that someone might have been hurt, McCarty had dispatchers check with St. Luke Hospital. No one had been brought in.

The car had damage to the front, rear, and driver’s side. Large pieces of both the front and rear fenders were missing. Also missing was a portion of trim above the rear passenger door. The rear fender on the driver’s side was hanging on the road, and the left rear tire was flat.

Although the car was pulled to the side of 180th Rd. west of Sunflower Rd., it had struck a fence surrounding Marion’s sewer lagoons about a quarter of a mile north of 180th Rd. on the east side of Sunflower Rd. The fence was badly damaged, and pieces of the car were in the ditch between it and the road.

Because the car was found in the county, McCarty called in sheriff’s deputies.

Following up on the vehicle’s license plate, which McCarty had checked, deputy Bruce Burke’ located the driver, Roslyn M. K. Kealy, 18, Peabody, after going to the home of the vehcile’s registered owner.

Burke’s said Kealy had been distracted, overcorrected, and lost control of the 2003 Saturn Ion, which then struck the fence around the sewer lagoon.

Although damage to the car was widespread, neither Kealy nor her passenger, 1-year-old Harper L. Kealy of the same address, reported injury.

The Ion was removed by its owner, David S. Kealy, also of the same address.

No tickets were listed as being issued.
