16 Marion, Hillsboro football players honored

Marion and Hillsboro were recognized for their play throughout the season with 16 total players receiving honors in Class 2A District 5.

Hillsboro had 10 players who were tabbed for district honors, including Austin Rempel, who made the first team on offense and defense for his work as a lineman. Senior wide receiver Dillon Boldt also was named to the first team, as were linebacker Tristan Rathbone and defensive back Matthew Potucek.

Potucek made the second team list at quarterback, as well as Nate Hein at running back, Duncan Duell at tight end, wide receiver Frank Wichert, and Boldt as a kicker. Boldt and Wichert also made the second team on as defensive backs, as well as defensive lineman Cole Kaufman, and linebacker Garrett Helmer.

Hein received honorable mention as a kick returner, and Jamari Harris was added to the list as a running back.

Marion football entered fall with just four returning starters, but the Warriors demonstrated growth throughout the season, in part by having six players receive recognition. That included three players who received honors on offense and defense.

Todd Palic was named to the first team as an offensive lineman, and on defense as a linebacker. Sophomore receiver Ian Ingels also was named to the first team.

Four Marion players received second-team honors. Braedon Mercer and Will Alleven were recognized for their work on offense, while Jake Hess and Seth Lanning made the list thanks to their defensive play.

Lanning made honorable mention on the offensive side for his work quarterbacking the Warriors, and Mercer’s efforts at linebacker were enough to receive honorable mention on defense. Mercer also received honorable mention as a kick returner.
