Charles Flippins of Risley Township claims to have been robbed near his house by three men, relieving him of $18 and some cents. No clue as to who they were as yet.

C.T. Dixon is building a restaurant and eating house on Main St. near the railroad in Florence.

One of the teachers in the Marion Centre school instructed her pupils to “write up” the animals in the late show. The elephant appears to have made the greatest impression on the youthful minds.

Ada Rhodes, less than 9 years of age, wrote as follows: “Elephants are stout, most stoutest animals in the world, and they have large ears and large mouths, and large teeth, and this one that I saw was bald-headed, but he had hair on his back, and he can carry a man in his trunk, and he can carry water in his trunk.”

Elsworth Eby, about the same age as the above author, wrote: “The elephant, it had a chain on its leg, it is bald-headed, it is almost twice as large as a horse, it has horns about three inches long, it has ears kinder like bats wings, it like to eat when it is hungry; it could kill a man or boy or girl or woman. The elephant is the largest animal in the world, it is a very stout creature, they are mostly caught by digging big holes in the ground and laying boards over it and when they get on that they fall in it and then they get them out and tame them.”

Two witnesses have now declared that that elephant was bald-headed, and we suppose it must be so.
