Sealed proposals will be received at the store of J.J. Costello for the building and completion of a Christian church, 26x46, 17 feet from surface of ground, either of stone, frame or brick, at the option and selection of building committee. Bids will be received until Tuesday, Aug. 31.

Mr. C.S. Triplett, founder of this paper, mourns the loss of his wife, who died of consumption in this city last Saturday. The deceased, whose maiden name was Mary E. Clark, daughter of Esquire Jacob Clark, of this township, was born March 39, 1853 with, and was therefore twenty-seven years old at the time of her death.

A little seven-year-old son of Mr. Wm. Dobbs fell or was thrown from a horse last Sunday afternoon, breaking his arm.

The heaviest rain which has visited this section for a year came down from the northeast last Tuesday afternoon and poured down nearly all night. It was a good soaking rain and put the ground in fine condition for fall work, besides helping out the late corn, sweet potatoes, trees, &c.

The lightning which accompanied the rain storm, Thursday night of last week, proved to be quite a serious visitation. The house of Geo. Hoggen, a Russian living in Liberty township, was struck, igniting and was burned up with Mr. Hoggen being killed.
