Through a dearth of local items, we determined to have a little fire of our own to create some excitement. When our printers arrived at the office Wednesday morning they found the building full of smoke and the boiler house on fire. A prompt application of water extinguished the flames.

Wheeler Bros. have a handsome new sign from the pencil of Mueller & Apel.

We are glad to note that the “City Fathers” seem to think that it is time to get a “move on.” The age of debate and dilly-dallying is past and the people are feeling that no matter what is done, do something.

We are pleased to note improvements of any kind. Taylor Riddle has built quite an addition to the rear of his drug store, as a storeroom for paints, oils and glass.

The following is part of a report for the month of December at Canada School. Number of scholars enrolled 56. Average attendance 45. In scholarship and deportment: Sixth Grade: S. Loruma Good and J.E. Good, rank first; Josiah Good, second; and John Siebert, third. Fifth Grade: Emma M. Good, first; William Messner, second, and Sarah Siebert, third.
