Not the least of the joys of the Christmas season are family gatherings — dinners where the old folks and young folks renew the spirit of family fellowship.

Virgie Searles, 8-year-old daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Art Searles, won a diamond ring at Sheldon’s Jewelry. She guessed the exact number of seeds in a pumpkin, 767. Hers was only correct guess. Guesses ranged from a half dozen to 1,500.

Wm. E. McGinness and Nancy Larsen were married at 8 p.m. Dec. 30 at the home of the bride’s parents, Mr. and Mrs. Andrew Larsen, southeast of Aulne. Only immediate relatives of the bride and groom were present and witnessed the ceremony. Mr. and Mrs. McGinness will make their home with Mrs. Avis McGinness at Aulne.

About 50 people — mostly present or former students at KU — attended the first banquet of the Marion County KU Club yesterday evening at the Elgin Hotel. Chancellor Frank Strong of the university was the guest of honor and made a splendid talk on the subject “The University and Its Ideals.” Toastmaster was Chas. Stiller. Talks were given by Lenore Miesse, attorney Sam Burkholder, and E.W. Hoch. The program closed with the singing of “The Crimson and the Blue.”
