Entries are being accepted for “Make it a Merry Marion Christmas” parade scheduled for Nov. 27 in downtown Marion. The promotions committee of Marion Chamber of Commerce is sponsoring the event.

A feature story by staff writer Rowena Plett tells how 2010 Centre graduate Alex Hajek plans to make agricultural production his career and become involved within the next year, along with his father John and brother Andrew, in his family’s farm operation, Hajek Farm and Ranch.

Sophomore cross country runner Elizabeth Goentzel is this week’s Marion County Record’s MHS Athlete of the Week. Goentzel had her best finish of the season Thursday at Remington when she placed fourth with a time of 18:11.

Pink plastic flamingos have been popping up throughout Marion. Plantations of Marion has been selling the yard decorations in observance of Breast Cancer Awareness Monday. Proceeds for the sale will go to Susan G. Komen for the Cure, a breast cancer research foundation.

Fire destroyed two homes during the week. The two-story, nearly 100-year-old house at 503 S. Cedar St. in Marion, home of Bill and Lisa Anderson, was completely destroyed by fire Thursday.

Fire also destroyed the residence of siblings Sabrina Carson and Brandon Albrecht Sunday evening at Third and Lombard Sts, in Lincolnville. The house is owned by Greg and Pam Holub of rural Lincolnville.
