In a special meeting Monday evening, Marion City Council hired Alan Meisinger of Marion as City Clerk.

Pictured on the front page is a Jersey named “Betsy” who was purchased April 7 by Borden Milk Products LP of Dallas, Texas, from Lyle Hanschu’s dairy at Lost Springs. She will be trained as a possible substitute for Elsie the Cow, the company’s mascot that will go on a 9-month tour to promote Borden dairy products.

Marion senior first baseman and pitcher, Brian Fruechting, signed a letter of intent May 10 to play baseball at Cloud County Community College.

Residents of Lost Springs will host a Cinco de Mayo celebration May 15 to honor the town’s position along the Santa Fe Trail. Festivities are scheduled to start at 9 a.m. with a breakfast in front of Al’s Café.

Marion High School girls track team placed first Thursday at Hesston. Julia Zeiner won four events — the long jump, triple jump, 100-meter hurdles, and the 300 hurdles.

Two births announced in this issue are those of Alexandra Grace Carlson, daughter of Lucas and Julie Carlson of Bel Aire, born March 24 and Shelby Lynn Summervill, daughter of Tim and Amy Summervill of Marion, born April 20.
